Essay
The third test in the main examination is an Essay Test, worth 200 points. The candidate can write the essay in English or in any other language included in the Eighth Schedule of the constitution. Candidates will be required to write an essay on specific topic. The choice of subjects will be given. They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in orderly fashion, and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression.
Interview
The interview, worth 300 points, is the last stage of the selection process. Nearly twice as many candidates are invited for Interview as the number of vacancies.
You can consider Interview as the last hurdle to be crossed. It is basically a personality test. All the candidates clearing the main are eligible for appearing for the interview. The basic nature of question is generally not academic.
The contemporary events are the major area from where questions are generally asked to the candidates. The confident, straightforward, sincere aspirant with the clear vision forms the major choice of selectors. The extreme of these qualities are also negative. The balanced physical, mental & psychological personality makes it to the final list of successful candidate.
The main exam score and the interview determine the placement in the final list. The whole process of selection in the civil services takes a full year. It sums up to 18 months in all, when the application process is included.
